Dog Training ... not just for puppies or dogs with serious issues.
After your dog completes her first course,
we will be much more able to help you pick the appropriate second course!
Dog behaviors change over time and therefore what dogs need from a training course changes over time, too. With puppies, we teach basic obedience as well as work on those puppy behaviors that can make puppy parents pull their hair out (such as peeing in the house, being unnecessarily scared of certain objects, and nipping). However, as puppies grow into older puppies, they become more independent and easily distracted and certain behaviors (such as coming when called) end up needing special attention in a training course.
Everyone needs a dog that turns on a dime and comes when called ... you never know when you'll need a great emergency recall because life gets pretty crazy sometimes! And as older puppies mature into young adults, they become less willing to accept new things and more set in the habits they have formed. Continuing to train your dog after they have completely their first training course helps you avoid letting your dog become comfortable with habits that left unchecked can lead to future problems. And ongoing classes also keep your dog well-socialzed so he does not become fearful, aggressive, or overly friendly with new people or dogs. We have dogs of all ages in our classes and many remain in some type of class for their entire lives! Of course, the type of class that's appropriate for each dog depends on the age of your dog and any specific behavioral needs your dog may have.
